The usual problems

Where hotel electricity billing breaks

Guests leave on a date you already know. A paper bill after they have left does not.

  • Low Occupancy, High Electricity Bills

    Low Occupancy, High Electricity Bills

Even when few rooms are occupied, corridors, lifts and plant equipment consume power, increasing operating costs.

  • Guest Checkout Leaves No Time for Billing

Guest Checkout Leaves No Time for Billing

When room electricity usage is unavailable at checkout, hotels struggle to recover costs after guests leave.

  • One Bill Covers Rooms, Kitchen and Laundry

One Bill Covers Rooms, Kitchen and Laundry

A single utility bill hides consumption across guest rooms, kitchens and laundry, making cost tracking difficult.

  • No Room-Wise Electricity Readings

    No Room-Wise Electricity Readings

Without individual room readings, management cannot easily track guest-room consumption or investigate unusual usage.

  • One Billing Process for Every Stay

One Billing Process for Every Stay

Overnight guests and long-stay residents have different billing needs, but manual processes struggle to accommodate both.

  • Guest Usage Gets Mixed with Plant Loads

Guest Usage Gets Mixed with Plant Loads

Electricity used by kitchens, corridors and other facilities gets mixed with guest-room consumption, obscuring costs.

Challenges

Hotel electricity costs extend beyond guest rooms

Management tracks expenses, front desks handle guest accounts, and operations teams manage the electricity used by rooms and facilities.

Management

High Electricity Costs Despite Low Occupancy

Guest rooms, kitchens, laundry, and common facilities share utility costs, making it difficult to identify consumption and control operating expenses.

  • High Electricity Costs at Low Occupancy

Corridors and plant equipment consume power even when guest rooms remain empty.

  • Kitchen and Guest Rooms Share One Bill

Food service and room consumption get mixed into one utility invoice.

  • Unrecovered Electricity After Checkout

Room electricity costs remain with the property when charges are missed at checkout.

Front office

Guest Checkout Happens Before Electricity Billing

Guests check out on schedule, but room readings may arrive later, leaving front-desk teams without the information needed for timely billing.

  • No Room Reading at Guest Checkout

Guests leave before staff have a final electricity reading for the room.

  • Different Stays Need Different Billing

Overnight guests and long-stay residents have different electricity billing needs.

  • Electricity Charges Arrive Too Late

Late readings leave the front desk unable to settle room charges at checkout.

Kitchen and laundry

Kitchen and Laundry Costs Stay Hidden

Kitchen, laundry, and other operational loads share the hotel utility bill with guest rooms, making department-level electricity costs difficult to track.

  • Kitchen Electricity Costs Stay Hidden

Kitchen consumption is mixed with guest-room electricity in the utility bill.

  • Guest and Plant Loads Are Mixed

The team cannot clearly separate guest usage from kitchen and laundry loads.

  • Operational Electricity Costs Are Recovered Late

Shared facility costs become clear only after manual readings and billing.

The ideal run

How Hotel & Guest House Electricity Billing Should Work?

A clear process to separate guest-room electricity from facility costs, settle room charges during checkout, and track consumption across hotel operations.

  1. 1

Separate Guest-Room Electricity From Facility Costs

Track guest-room consumption separately from kitchens, laundry, corridors, and other shared facilities, so low occupancy does not hide ongoing operating costs.

  2. 2

Calculate Room Electricity Charges Before Checkout

Review room-wise electricity usage before the guest leaves and account for both short and long stays without delaying checkout reconciliation.

  3. 3

Track Kitchen, Laundry & Other Facility Loads

Measure electricity used by kitchens, laundry, and shared facilities separately to understand operating costs and allocate charges appropriately.

What Should You Do?

Separate Guest Room and Hotel Electricity Costs With Qube

Empty rooms still leave you with electricity costs, and the kitchen and laundry keep running. Qube lets you meter guest rooms separately from facility loads, so you can see where the electricity goes and work out the costs more clearly.

  • A meter connected to a room, an air conditioner, and a light

Put Smart Submeters On Each Rental & Shared Spaces

Know how much electricity each room or space uses. Keep tenant consumption separate from common areas instead of splitting one utility bill.

  • Prepaid and postpaid billing on a phone and a bill

Choose Relevant Billing Mode, Prepaid Or Postpaid

Let tenants recharge before using electricity, or bill long-stay residents and departments later. Run both billing methods on the same platform.

  • Usage charts on a laptop and a phone

Manage Readings, Recharges, Balances, And Usage Records in One Place

See electricity usage, outstanding balances, and collections on one dashboard. Spend less time updating spreadsheets and reconciling records.

  • Power staying on at night, on weekends, and on holidays

Keep Power On During Nights, Weekends, And Holidays

Set Happy Hours, Happy Days, and Happy Weeks to prevent automatic power cut-offs during selected nights, weekends, and holidays—even when the balance is low.

  • A recharge that still collects the balance on the meter

Record Every Electricity Unit, Even When Payment Is Pending

Scheduled grace periods do not wipe out electricity dues. Usage remains recorded, and outstanding amounts can be collected through the next recharge.

  • The owner, the desk, and the tenant seeing the same usage & recharge records

Give Everyone the Same View of Electricity Usage & Recharges Transparently

Owners, property staff, and tenants can refer to the same usage records. Fewer spreadsheets, fewer conflicting numbers, and clearer billing discussions.

  1. 01

Room usage you can close at checkout or separate AC billing (if required)

  2. 02

Separate meters for guest rooms, kitchen, laundry, corridors, and common areas

  3. 03

Prepaid, postpaid, or a mix by room type (Transient, Long-stay, Service Apartment, etc.)

And many more

Other features for hotel electricity billing

  • Room electricity billing continues if WiFi drops

On-device billing keeps the room account going without internet, including a cut at zero balance.

  • The desk gets the room electricity alert the same day

Alerts cover a recharge, a low balance, and a room running hard while the guest is still in house.

  • A long stay can see what to recharge

Balance forecast uses that room’s pattern, so the top-up is not a guess at the desk.

  • Share the reading when the guest asks

Send the room’s usage and history with a link, instead of rewriting the folio by hand.

  • Generator electricity has a higher rate

Generator units can take a higher tariff than grid power, so the hotel recovers the diesel.

  • Corridor charges stay off the room

A predefined common-area charge deducts on its own, so laundry and corridors are not inside the guest line.

  • Electricity readings stay saved if WiFi drops

Hourly usage stays on the meter and syncs when the property network is back.

  • See which room used more electricity

Room-wise usage shows the heavy stay before checkout, not in a later reconciliation.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find the right answer here? Visit our FAQ

Can we bill energy on the guest folio?

Yes, if the room is on a Qube meter. Live usage is available before checkout so the desk can add units instead of writing them off.

Do hotel rooms need prepaid?

Not always. Transient rooms often stay postpaid with a reading at checkout. Long-stay and service apartments usually convert better on prepaid QR recharge.

Will this work with our PMS?

Start with the Qube dashboard. If you need meter data inside an existing PMS, talk to sales on WhatsApp.

How is this different from a PG?

PGs collect from residents who stay months. Hotels collect around occupancy and checkout. Same meters, different settlement moment.

Which submeter fits my building?

Start at the meter matcher. It asks how you bill and how power reaches the building, then names the meter. Most people finish in about two minutes.

Do I need a large order to test Qube?

Start with 1, 2, or 3 meters from our store and test Qube on a real circuit. Your platform fee is waived for the first 45 days, so you can experience the platform, track actual results, and see the impact before scaling.Need more meters?
